Fairtex Commercials

This one is for the gym/brand in general.

This is a Converse commercial featuring Kaew Fairtex. I appologize for the music (not the Thai music, but the Godsmack or what ever crap is playing) in this one.

Num Jongsanan Fairtex

After the whole cyst incident I have been hesitant to hold pads for anybody. I mean, really, there is nothing like a good, hard kick to the wrist after ad injury, right?? Wrong. So instead I have been doing a lot of bag work, and pad work on my own. Yesterday though, after my first round on the pole bag Jongsanan, which I just found out is his last name his first being Num, put Thai pads on and yelled at me to go with him. I don't know about you, but I feel incredibly honored when I am singled out by a trainer, especially one as famous and revered as Jongsanan. Now, he only held for me for two rounds but I gave it all I had and he beat me up pretty good. I don't know if you have ever been through anything like this but imagine working as hard and as fast as you can on any exercise, lets say hurtles or something, all while someone is punching you in the left eye and forehead and ears over and over again. It's hard and it hurts and it's frustrating.
After the two rounds I saw that I need lots of work on composure, form, stamina and speed. It was good to train with someone who really pushes you. If they don't acknowledge your limits then it helps you to turn a blind eye to them too. This makes me want to fight again.

Tattoo and Operation

While my girlfriend and I were in the US Virgin Islands I decided to get a tattoo. We climbed a rope ladder into this tree house tattoo parlor where we were greeted by a tan, tatted up, bleach blond guy who reminded me of that guy in the tattoo parlor in the movie Son In Law, I think it was Flea. Anyway, I am here getting a tattoo for my dearest best friend Becky who recently passed so I want it to be something great. I tell the guy I want it on my right shoulder blade (not really a spot I'd ever want a tattoo) and lay down and let him do his work. I must have passed out because I don't remember the rest of the night.
I woke up in the morning, or early afternoon, to an empty house. I figure everyone is probably at the Tiki Bar down the beach so that is where I head. When I arrive Emma is swimming with a few of her girl friends and others are lounging around. I take of my shirt and slip into one of the half submerged booths near the bar and order a beer. Behind me I hear everyone chuckling. I turn only to find that they are pointing and laughing at me, at my new tattoo. I realize that I fell asleep during the process and that I haven't actually seen my tattoo. I swing my head around to try to get a good look. There, sitting at the top of my shoulder is a head. I recognize the head but can't figure out how. I run over to one of the mirrors and that's when I see it in all its glory. The whole right side of my back is covered by this cartoon-y looking figure. And then it hits me. i've seen this guy before, from when I was a child. I have the goofy looking guy for the game Operation tattooed on my back.
I throw on a t-shirt, or try to at least, being wet isn't helping. Make my way over to Emma so that we can go home. She slithers out from under my arm and pushes me away and tells me I'm embarrassing her. Man, even my girlfriend doesn't want to be seen in public with me. She tells me that she still loves me but that maybe we shouldn't be seen together.
This tattoo has ruined me....I woke up this morning more stressed out than when I went to bed.

ChiTown-Doctor

I left work a little early today to make a visit to my new neighborhood doctor (five blocks from my apt). But first I had to make a stop in China Town to cash a check and make a visit to my favorite dim sum joint, Dim Sum Nice Food, and the barbecue spot next door. I decided to go with something more average, Shrimp Fried Rice, or as they say, ShiFlyLie (is that hella racist???), and an order of sweet barbecue pork ribs. "chop!" I always have to ask them. I know it looks like a demand, but this is how the Chinese in San Francisco ask for things. While he was chopping up my ribs I was asking about how much a knife like the one he was using costs "100 dolla!!" he shouts back. Holy shit. I want one. I think I might buy one from a Chinese kitchenware shop in the nearby on Sacramento and something. Anyway, I make my way down one of the little alleys and find a nice little park with some bmx kids in it. I sit and eat and watch the bmx kids launch off shit. I also try not to see the homeless people using the bathroom.
After stuffing my face I make my way to the 5 Fulton line so that I can make my doctor apt. While on the bus a group of 7 high school kids take seats next to me. These kids were absolutely painful to listen too. They all had really bad acne and fashion. One was asking, in a really loud way, what obnoxious meant. I wanted to yell 'YOU!!! You are obnoxious!' All the couples were really mismatched. Like a semi good looking black dood with a really fat ugly white girl. A clean looking Hispanic dood (and I mean clean compared to his homies, not other Hispanic people) hanging with another really zitted up, fat, white girl. Two dikes, and some really, really, really tall white guy with the worst zits of them all.
I made my doctors apt. an hour early, but that's alright, they took me anyway. They think that I either have a ganglion cyst or just strained tendons. Either way the doc said "Hell, lay off." and thats just what I'll do.
Now I am off to go have a beer with my brother, look at his new tattoo and then stroll down the The Transfer for Truman and Spiro's birthday. See you Monday.

A Drunk Cyclist reader says:

"From: Hurlkowski
Subject: Poetry in Motion
Yo Jonny,
Seen on a sticker in Portland last weekend:
“Fixies are the new Rollerblades.”

Fruit Booters Unite!"

I can turn a four day work week into a day and a half...

Back to work on Tuesday=not so bad. Waking up sick on Wednesday=not so good.
I spent the better part of Wednesday and Thursday in bed. The only times I got up were to cook, use the restroom, pay the delivery guy, go buy two pints of ice cream (which I ate back to back), and to move my friend Steve's car while he is in Guatemala.
While in bed I watched a bunch of television, season 2 and 3 of Entourage, episode 5 of The Contender Asia, Kundun, It's All Gone Pete Tong, and part of Old Boy. I did lots and lots of web surfing/blog reading. I also got a bit into Anthony Bourdain's book Nasty Bits.
I am well rested, though still a bit stuffy, none the less I am ready for a good night out tonight at The Transfer for Truman and Spiro's birthday bash. See you there.

Emma Says...

"Don't just sit there, go plant something!!!"

My weekend in Jenner

Weekend of the 15th-18th of February 2008

Evening Arrival
Ha!!! Looking over these last couple of pages is pretty funny (there are menu's on the previous pages of my journal). Emma and I stocked up for our trip to Jenner with a trunk full of groceries specifically tailored to the menu's I had made. Some how we've managed to use almost none of it and still stay completely stuffed, filled to the brim. It was an amazing weekend away. An extremely lazy weekend away.
We arrived on Friday evening around 11:30 pm. Highlights of the drive were....well, I guess there were no highlights to the drive unless you count me peeing in the middle of nowhere a highlight. It was really nice to pee off into the darkness off of High way 1.
We arrived, stocked the fridge snacking the whole time, and went up stairs. We prepared the couch for two, threw on an episode of Magnum P.I. (the "Lest we forget" episode about Magnum trying to find a soldiers whore ((she really was a whore)) wife) and passed out halfway through the episode.

DAY ONE:
We, and by we I mean I, were awakened by an alarm going off somewhere in the house. Hazily, I stumbled out of bed, visions of a fire or some expensive electronic device going haywire or any one of the paranoia's I get when using someone else's property much less their house. After pounding on various clocks, phones and other unrecognizable devices I finally found the screeching object. It was an electronic box with a digital/touch screen that seemed to display everything from the time to the air pressure to the wind direction. Press, press, press. I hit several buttons, completely changing the display face, until finally I hit the button that makes it stop screaming at me. Back to bed. It's only 8:00 am.

DAY TWO:
Saturday morning by bullets
-Emma gets up=whole bed to myself (it was a California King=HUGE)
-Granola and Yogurt on the porch.
-Sunshine
-Green grass.
-Amazing views of the Pacific Ocean.
-Eating breakfast on the porch in a rocking chair next to Emma with the sun on our faces and the rolling hills and ocean as our backdrop.
The afternoon was spent exploring with Buddy, Emma's 500 pound black lab. We sat in the grass and played fetch and took walks and naps and listened to music and cooked and read and enjoyed each others company. Later that afternoon we decided to take a drive down to the beach that the house overlooked. It was an amazing little cove. We parked the car and I immediately grabbed Buddy's ball and took off running down the trail. Buddy was in hot pursuit. Buddy and I would stop and rest (it was a long trail) and wait for Emma and then we would start running again and then stop. Running the last leg of the trial was especially fun because there were roots and fallen trees to jump on. Buddy, even with his bum hip kept up with me and at the end of the trail when I jumped up onto a big tree he was right by my side. Buddy and I became much better friends that day. I could see that he trusted me a lot more. Emma has a video of the chase.
There was a river meandering down the beach that had to be crossed. I found some shallow spots and made it across reletively dry. Emma, with her short stack legs, had to take off her shoes and splash her way....I probably should've carried her...oops.
What a wonderful day at the beach. Activities were basically running from one end to the other, chasing Buddy, being chased by Buddy, playing fetch, climbing rocks, hiding, teasing Buddy, taking lots of pictures and then, eventually making friends with the late arrivals who were planning to camp on the beach that night.
Back to the house to try to stuff our faces some more, hot tub it up and eventually watch some more Magnum and cuddle until we dozed off.

DAY THREE:
I'll spare you all the adorable details and just give you the jist....again, in bullets.
-Pancakes.
-Cuddles.
-Reading.
-Fog.
-More Cuddles.
-Long, hot showers...with a view, thats right, a shower with a view.
-Walking with Buddy in the fog.
-Talking with Buddy.
-Cooking.
-Trying to teach Emma how to knee and kick and punch.
-Wine.
-Singing for a whole conversations to the tune of 'On top of spaghetti"
-And of coarse, more cuddles.

Favorite meal of the weekend....
prosciutto, sliced veggies, olive bread and hummus dip, and assorted fruits and cheeses.

Pictures to come.

Alby Mangels

Alby Mangels: Beyond World Safari

Happy Valentines...you suck....and stop saying VDay.

So, lame subject lines aside. I absolutely cannot stand Valentines day. I think I am a sweet enough boyfriend that I don't need some fucking crap holiday in the middle of winter to slap me in the face with its icy hand and point out how I have been slipping up...because I haven't. So fuck you Valentines Day.
Valentines Day is for middle American frat boys and girls who have juicy written on their butts.

That said, Emma and I do have a wonderful little weekend ahead of us. We have a cabin rented in Jenner. The cabin is quite beautiful. It sits up on the hillside and overlooks a canyon and the RR estuary (where the Russian River meets the Pacific). Beautiful rolling hills, coast line and sea as far as the eye can see. Just the two of us, lots of fruit, wine, champagne, food, and a hot tub. See you on Monday suckers.

Oh yeah...

Right now I am eating at my desk (I have more important things to do on my lunch break than eat). I am eating a pork loin, some roast beef, and carrots, celery, potatoes and onions seasoned with rosemary. I love food.

Food

For some reason food makes me dance. I just can't help it. If it's cookies on the center table at work or a night out with friends, if it's food then my feet, butt, face will show you how happy I am to be there.
